Review on the possible role of FSAP in coagulation, fibrinolysis and atherothrombosis
In this 2003 editorial Mann discusses the biological role of FSAP. He points out that 1 % of total plasma factor VII is present in its cleaved enzymatically active form (VIIa) and that so far there is no adequate explanation for the source of this active enzyme.
He suggests that “… FSAP is a leading candidate for the maintenance of plasma factor VIIa, and its evaluation may prove useful.”
He continues that FSAP “…. provides an additional linkage between the initiation of the coagulation system and fibrinolysis…”.
